\## Executive Summary

The research introduces ESCAPE, a new framework designed to enhance motion planning for robots operating in unstructured environments. Traditional methods often depend on external cameras, which can create limitations such as blind spots and vulnerabilities to obstacles and environmental clutter. This reliance can hinder effective navigation and increase the risk of collisions.

ESCAPE addresses these challenges by utilizing an online egocentric sensing approach. It gathers data from various depth sensors, which are placed strategically on the robot, and compiles this information into a detailed point cloud representation that highlights obstacles in the robot's path. This method allows the robot to better understand its immediate surroundings and make informed decisions to navigate safely.

The core of ESCAPE's operation is its ability to generate safe trajectories through a generative framework that matches movement flows. This framework has been trained on a comprehensive dataset that includes over 100,000 trajectories critical for safety, ensuring that the robot can effectively reach its goals while avoiding collisions. Notably, ESCAPE can operate without any adjustments after being trained in a simulated environment, meaning it can be deployed directly onto physical hardware without the need for additional fine-tuning.

Extensive testing in both simulated and real-world scenarios indicates that ESCAPE provides reliable motion planning using only egocentric data, outperforming existing methods that rely on external observations or traditional voxel-based planning. This capability suggests that ESCAPE could streamline robot deployment in various applications, particularly in settings where traditional vision systems may fail, such as warehouses, disaster response, or complex urban environments.

The implications of this research are significant for industries looking to implement autonomous robotic solutions. By minimizing the reliance on external visual inputs, companies could enhance the robustness of their robots in unpredictable environments, ultimately leading to safer and more efficient operations.

\## Academic Abstract

Motion planning in unstructured environments is a bottleneck for robot deployment. Current visuomotor policies predominantly rely on external cameras, introducing perceptual blind spots and fragility due to occlusions, clutter, and calibration constraints. To overcome these limitations, we propose ESCAPE, an online egocentric sensing framework for collision-free trajectory generation. ESCAPE aggregates sparse measurements from distributed depth sensors, converting them into a structured, obstacle-aware point cloud representation. Our policy leverages a flow matching-based generative framework, and trains on a high-quality dataset comprising over 100K safety-critical trajectories. With joint optimization of goal-reaching and collision objectives, it produces safe trajectories directly from these egocentric inputs. Crucially, ESCAPE is trained entirely in simulation and transfers zero-shot to physical hardware without any real-world fine-tuning. Extensive simulation and real-world evaluations demonstrate that ESCAPE achieves stable motion planning using only egocentric perception, outperforming external-view and voxelized-planning baselines across both simulation and real-world evaluations.
